High levels of engagement on Facebook are getting harder and harder to achieve. But, what if there was a way to reach only the people you wanted to, with each specific post.

You have thousands (or hundreds if you’re just starting out) of likes on Facebook, and you’ve got your specific niche, but it doesn’t mean that everyone is in the same place, or will respond to each piece of content that you produce.

If only there was a way to only reach specific people.

Well, there is!

It used to be an easy-to-find and use a feature, but Facebook hid it, so I want to show you how to use it and how to make the most of it to boost engagement.

First things first. Let’s turn it on!

Go to your Facebook Page Settings and find the option for “Audience Optimisation for Posts”, hit edit, and turn it on!

Now when you go to create a post you will see a little target option, this is how you access your new secret weapon, and how you can boost engagement.

Simply click it and you’ll get the option for ‘Preferred Audience’ and ‘Audience Restrictions’.

Preferred Audience means that you can show more people with the corresponding interest in your post.

Note: This isn’t like boosting a post, it won’t be shown to more people, it simply means that the right people will see your post, and those ‘right’ people are more likely to engage in your posts.

For example, if you’re a fashion house and you have an activewear line, you could show your new crop top and leggings post just to those who like “lorna jane”. It doesn’t mean that others won’t see your post, just that you are putting it in front of the right people. First. Which means higher engagement.

Another example would be if you were a health coach or a PT and had a specific ‘trending’ topic to discuss, you can ensure those who have already expressed an interest in the said topic are going to see your post.

Clever, right?

All you have to do is search for the corresponding interest.

The targeting gets even better when it comes to ‘audience restrictions’ here you can really segment down your market. You might sell to men and women. To avoid the guys seeing the latest women’s line, you can simply target this post to your ideal client’s demographics. Or if you have a product range for teens, 20-year-old men, 40-year-old women, or any other age, you can guarantee that you are getting in front of the right people.

Or if you target across different locations or languages, but some lines aren’t available in certain areas, you can restrict the post from going to that location – no more disappointed customers.

And you can even craft specific posts in various languages to cater to your audience and make it easier for them to connect with you!

The opportunities with this are endless and they will allow you to develop better relationships with your customers, and ultimately that will increase engagement!

Have fun! And as always if you’re not sure how to utilise this for your business, let’s chat!
